Surveys in Support of Mine Development Southwestern, Alaska
We provided surveying services to support the development of a mining site in rural Alaska. Numerous surveys were conducted along the river to support the eventual construction of a port and the development of adjacent resources to make the port an efficient, productive, accessible, and safe harbor environment. Additional surveys were provided for the engineering design of roads, bridges, and the infrastructure needed to meet the future operational needs of the mine.
Our surveyors conducted site specific surveys using RTK GPS and conventional surveying equipment for this multi-phased project. Survey data was analyzed, corrected and provided to the engineering designers.
Resource surveys of peat bogs were conducted to determine whether these bogs would be a viable fuel source for the port and its facilities. Plan and profile sheets and plots of peat depths were provided to the engineers for consideration. We surveyed the engineer's core sampling sites using RTK GPS and conventional surveying equipment.
A Hydrotrack depth sounder was used to conduct hydrographic surveying of multiple river crossings to determine river depths and shoaling. River data was collected using Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) to monitor the river discharge, currents, and stages over a 3-month period. River depth charts and survey data was provided to the engineering staff working on designing a safe and efficient river route for barge traffic and the movement of mineral exports along the river.
Our staff provided corrected surface models from LiDAR and Aerial Photogrammetry surveys that had previously been conducted in the area. This data was provided to support the engineering design of the road from the mine to the port.
