Lake Travis Multibeam and Sidescan Lake Travis, Texas

Our surveyors used the M/V Royal Fish with a Reson 8101 multibeam, Applanix POS/MV inertial navigation system, and a Trimble R8 RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) base station and rover for these surveys. Backscatter from the 8101 provided the side scan data.

The survey team arrived in Lake Travis and immediately located the client supplied control. After the base station was set-up, the boat was launched and calibrations were underway. Having completed a successful patch test, each of the three survey areas were covered by the 8101. Lastly, for vertical control check, a top of water shot was taken near the dam and compared to published daily lake elevation levels.

Uniquely, the purpose of this project was to establish lake elevation levels as opposed to depth. Therefore, hydrographic data was processed with RTK monitored lake elevations as tides. Tidal values for the project ranged from 0.5 ft., as lake fluctuations are small however, the value itself was a 691 ft. "tide." This allowed us to publish maps of the properly referenced elevations of the lake bed as if it were a topographic survey, instead of a lake 700 ft. above sea level.
