Prepare accurate, complete and value-added survey work products that consistently meet clients’ deliverables. This position is responsible for directing surveys and mapping projects from field to finish within required time frames, budgets and contract requirements. He or she verifies the quality and accuracy of collected data, and supervises the preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, progress sketches, records, documents and deliverables related to the survey.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
Analyze survey objectives and specifications in order to prepare survey proposals
Assist with proposal preparation, project management, and final quality control for all surveys prepared
Monitor entire life cycle of to include planning, organizing, and directing survey projects; schedule project in logical steps and budget time using resources required to meet deadlines and profitability targets and interfacing with clients on technical matters
Work directly with project team members to include scheduling of field crew activity and coordinating equipment
Negotiate, review and implement contracts and subcontracts
Write operation reports, maintain logs and update records
Responsible for survey calculations, analysis and final map checking, and client relations
Work within defined project scopes and budgets; managing deadlines and prioritizing assignments
Verify the accuracy of field survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites
Approve data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys
Work with survey team and drafters for final product
Review and process the results of field surveys
5+ years survey experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics, Cartography, Geography, Natural Sciences, Engineering or other relevant discipline preferred
Skills and Special Requirements/ Licensing:
Registered PLS in Alaska preferred but would consider candidates who have PLS in progress or planned
Excellent cooperation skills working efficiently with a team, training, coordinating, and leading others in accomplishing work activities
Excellent time management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources
Advanced knowledge of codes, surveying principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions
Working knowledge of relevant technical software
Working knowledge of field instrumentation
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of project requirements, including budget, regulatory requirements, and project submittal
Marine construction experience preferred but not required
Merchant Marine Physical
Valid Driver’s license, must be legally eligible and insurable to drive
Ability to procure a passport
Ability to travel and work in other cities
Ability to work in inclement weather of Alaska
Ability and willingness to perform work in both field and office settings
Work duties are performed in office and field environments. Survey work requires working at sea for extended periods of time and may require living and working in close, cramped quarters. This position requires occasional heavy lifting of survey equipment. Adjusted work schedule, long days, and evening/weekend hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
