Job Purpose:
Responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of TerraSond’s Safety and Quality
Management Systems and activities to ensure organizational effectiveness, increased productivity and
regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Environmental Health and Safety
The purpose of this program is to promote and protect the wellbeing of employees, visitors and guests, the
environment and the reputation of TerraSond. The incumbent is responsible for the creation and
implementation of a variety of programs and activities to prevent injuries, increase productivity and
effectiveness, and ensure regulatory compliance. Primary responsibilities include:

 Interpret federal, state and local laws, monitor compliance where appropriate to ensure overall
compliance and commitment to environmental practices. Implement policies and procedures to ensure
these practices are in compliance. Ensure inspections are conducted, corrective actions are completed,
and findings are appropriately documents.
 Working closely with HSEQ team, leadership and other operations personnel, identify and implement
environmental solutions in regards to federal mandates and regulations, Environmental Management
Systems (EMS), and policies and procedures to reduce risk and protect company operations, assets and
 Prepare company responses with federal, state and local environmental inquiries and coordinate and
drive solutions with environmental regulatory agencies to minimize impact, prevent future occurrences
and ensure compliance.
 Manage Employee Safety and Health program to ensure safe workplace conditions in all work
locations. Recognize, evaluate and control environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the
workplace that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, etc. Coordinate and or perform
monitoring and investigation of complaints. Drive auditing programs, complete reports and findings,
and recommend improvements.
 Identify hazardous workplace conditions and recommend preliminary action to correct and
communicate areas of improvement. Perform necessary follow-up to ensure corrective action has
improved situation. Monitor, revise procedures and/or train employee on the use of protective clothing
and personal protective equipment. Participate in federal, state or local inspections when appropriate.
Investigate, prepare and forward as required reports on injuries and compliance issues.
 Deliver new and creative solutions to support continuous improvements in all environmental health and
safety areas.
 Conduct HSE audits for projects both in the field and in the office. This will require travel and time
spent working offshore periodically.
 Conduct HSE and quality audits and inspections for all sub-contractors to ensure compliance including
vessel suppliers.
 Interface and build positive collaborative relationships with client HSE professionals.
 Responsible for HSE sections of proposal and project plans.

Quality Management
The purpose of this program is to create and support an environment that yields continuous quality
improvement for TerraSond’s business processes and practices. Primary responsibilities include:
 Develop and promote quality achievement and performance improvement philosophies throughout the
organization. Develop training or presentations to educate staff and suppliers/vendors. Facilitate
and/or coordinate meetings and forums regarding quality management and its effects on production and
organizational success.
 Develop and implement corrective, preventive action and problem-solving strategies, policies and
procedures to ensure compliance with national and international standards and legislation. Work
closely with vendors, clients and regulatory personnel to pro-actively engage in compliance issues.
 Identify productivity, effectiveness and/or quality goals and objectives. Implement strategies or plans,
evaluate progress, analyze data and identify corrective action when necessary to ensure targets are
 Develop and manage data collection and statistical systems to aid in process control and root cause
problem identification.

Job Specifications/Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 knowledge of all aspects of land, hydrographic, and geophysical surveying in both domestic and
international markets. Risk management protocols, contract compliance.
 Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all ISO safety and quality standards including but not
limited to 45001, 18001, 9001.
 Comprehensive knowledge of SOLAS, USCG, IMCA, OVID and other vessel standards.
 Strong business acumen and the ability to understand the business needs of TerraSond Ltd.
 Knowledge of and ability to apply “business” or “organizational” focus and effectively integrate
decisions with commercial considerations.
 Comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to safety principles and protocols.
 Working knowledge of federal, state and local, as well as international safety and quality standards and
capability to develop, audit and implement procedures that comply with these standards.
 Technical expertise to identify root cause through data analysis.
 Working knowledge of personal computers including word processing, database, and spreadsheet
 Excellent verbal, written, presentation and persuasive communication skills.
 Effective mediation, problem solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
 Ability and willingness to lead by example.

Education and Training
 Certified Quality Engineer, Reliability Engineer or Six-Sigma Black Belt preferred.
 Professional certification in Health and Safety Discipline such as CIH or CSP preferred.

 Six (6) years of experience developing and applying environmental health and safety strategies, quality
management and improvement strategies or a combination of both.

Certificate(s) and/or License(s):
 Ability to procure and maintain a valid driver’s license.
 Ability to procure and maintain a valid passport.

Tools and Equipment Used:
 Standard office equipment including personal computer, telephone system, fax machine, copier,
scanner, binding machine, 10 key calculator and printers.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a combination of an office and a field environment. Field work is performed
outdoors and may take place in inclement weather and extreme temperatures. Hydrographic survey work
requires working at sea for extended periods of time and may require living and working in close,
cramped quarters.
Both field and office work require occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds).
Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, long days, and evening/weekend hours to meet
deadlines. Extensive travel, both domestic and international, is required.
