Site Selection

Our hydrographers identify optimum placement locations for hydroelectric turbines in rivers by conducting discharge measurements and river height measurements to identify the correlation between USGS published data and the specific factors associated with turbine sites. They also use bathymetry and geophysical imagery for the identification of obstructions for construction and piling insertion looking specifically for boulders or bedrock in the sub surface of river thalwegs.

Hydroelectric Turbine Sites for Alternative Energy Project
Yukon River, Alaska
Our staff conducted a geophysical reconnaissance of the Yukon River in Alaska to identify a safe and potentially productive installation site for an in-stream hydrokinetic turbine. This information enabled the client to better understand the resource available to the community for power production and to establish a cost and engineering strategy for future build out.
